Breitling VS Omega: Which is better?
Our watch experts are usually asked, "Which is a better brand, Omega or Breitling?". Let’s cover every corner, right?
These two brands are usually highly considered when one is on the lookout for a new high-end watch. Both Breitling and Omega have a history as high-quality watch brands, but some questions need to be answered.
Quality and Craftsmanship
Let’s set the record straight. If you buy an Omega or Breitling watch, you will get a high-quality watch made by a highly reputable watchmaker. Both watch brands offer their own innovations and special points.
Breitling produces many watches marketed as professional watches. This, of course, refers to their various watches that are made for pilots, astronauts, marine professionals, diving professionals, search and rescue teams, and so on. This innovative brand even produced a watch that has a tracking light installed which would help you in case of natural disasters or any other form of danger. Breitling also values personal style and you can personalize each watch from a variety of straps using the Breitling watch belt of your choice. Omega also has a good variety of NATO belts that can be purchased after the sale. However, they may not do it on the same scale as Breitling.
Omega has some excellent watches for professional divers, such as the Seamaster PloProf 1200m which offers 1,200 meters of water resistance. They also create some impressive chronographs (watches with a stopwatch). This feature works well for time-sensitive sports such as various forms of racing. They are a new derivative of the original Omega clock that was there when Buzz Aldrin wore it to the lunar surface. Both watch manufacturers are excellent in design and today have many fans and followers who swear by each of them.
Accuracy and precision
When it comes to accuracy, one of the most discussed and competitive aspects of the watch, these two brands have both their areas where they shine brightly. For starters, there are two categories of watches where categorically there are large differences in inaccuracy. The first category is mechanical watches. These types of watches get their power through severely injured springs and through a series of gears and components, the spring tension is gradually released causing the hands to rotate around the caller showing the time. Some of the most accurate mechanical clocks (such as automatic clocks and manual clocks) are tested in a third-party facility in Switzerland called COSC. Once certified as highly accurate within the COSC specifications, they obtain a COSC certificate and receive the Timer designation.
The other category is quartz clocks. These are battery watches and they use another regulatory system that includes a quartz crystal. The battery sends a charge to the quartz crystal which causes the quartz to resonate at an extremely high and extremely stable speed. Through a series of gears, the scorpions turn, but at a much higher speed than any mechanical watch. It is a bit ironic but the more expensive of the two types is less accurate which uses only mechanical components with no electric charge. Part of the reason is that a mechanical watch is more work to be created. Another reason is that for the watch connoisseur and enthusiast, the mechanical caliber has an esoteric value that cannot be found in a quartz watch.
On a side note, Rolex is another watchmaker doing further testing after the issuance of a COSC certificate, but they do this internal testing, while Omega thought it was important to keep a neutral third party involved for the stage. last test. We wrote an excellent comparison of how this test is done and you can read it here.
Omega has many mechanical watches that have the Master Timer label that comes with two different certifications. Breitling, on the other hand, does not have a Master Stopwatch but has many hours with a certificate from COSC and the Stopwatch designation. On the other hand, they have many quartz watches that have a COSC-certified Quartz Stopwatch designation which means that the battery movement is accurate to a higher standard than standard factory quartz movements. Breitling calls these clock movements SuperQuartz and can be found in many of their quartz watches.
In terms of the traditional watch and the accuracy of the mechanical watch, the Omega has the upper hand with its Master Stopwatch. Regarding quartz watches, Breitling in many cases holds the crown with Breitling Superquartz calibers.
Pricing
In terms of their prices, you can get an entry-level Omega or an entry-level Breitling for almost the same price point; the most affordable new watches from both brands start at under $ 3,000.
